Our Dementia department will be running four 'Nature Based Art Workshops' either at the Farm or at your care setting on Tuesday afternoons. Each workshop will be inclusive and tailored specifically to the abilities of each participant.
The workshops will be kept small with a maximum of 6 participants (plus carer/support staff).
Location: Heeley City Farm or we can come to your care or nursing home setting.
The workshops will combine natural, art and sensory materials. Focus will be on the present moment and the activities will provide opportunities to explore creativity, learn new skills and promote social interaction (on verbal and non-verbal levels).
Each workshop will be inclusive and tailored specifically to the abilities of each participant.
You will be introduced to three images by artists who have used nature, seasons and the landscape to inspire their work
You will then create your own image inspired by nature and the artists you have been introduced to.
Learn to make your very own felted bars of soap. These ‘fuzzy’ soaps are covered with wool and make a wonderful gentle exfoliator.
In this two hour workshop you can felt 1 or 2 soaps (sensitive soap will be provided or you can bring your own favourite soap to felt).
Make your own air-dry clay bird to hang on your wall.
In this two hour workshop you will roll and cut your bird out of the clay. You can then decorate and add texture and pattern to your bird (or you can decorate a ready-dried clay bird).
Make your own small air-dry clay plant pot using ancient techniques.
In this two hour workshop you will create 1 or 2 plant pots. You will then decorate your pot with natural textures and patterns using materials such as wood sticks and stone slate.
Creative, tactile and multi-sensory experiences like art-making can support and improve health and wellbeing.
